G. Elizabeth Bergman is an articling student in our Edmonton Office. She chose law because she loves the nuances and complexities of it, and the surprising implications it has for the people who rely on it. What Elizabeth enjoys the most about the law is the challenge of trying to articulate how it can be understood to serve the interests of the client. She has a special interest in IP and administrative law.

Prior to joining Field, Elizabeth completed her JD at the University of Alberta, where she received the Horace Harvey Gold Medal in Law. She also holds a PhD from Queen’s University, a master’s from the University of Waterloo, and a bachelor of music from McGill University. She has received numerous awards for her academic work, including a Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship and a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. During her JD, she interned with the Office of the Judge Advocate General and in 2025 she will begin clerking with the Alberta Court of Appeal.

Elizabeth’s academic background has given her a lot of experience crafting and defending arguments. She has published both academic and non-academic works, and has experience explaining complex legal doctrine to non-legal audiences. She is passionate, efficient, detail oriented, and focused. Together, these strengths will serve her practice, and her clients, well.
