    After over 100 years and many name changes, we present ourselves as one independent, regional law firm with over 135 lawyers and more than 200 staff capable of serving client and community needs throughout Alberta and the North connected by a network of like-minded firms that give our clients national and global breadth.

    2023

    In February 2023, we acquired the Canmore-based firms Hicks Intellectual Property Law and Hicks & Associates Intellectual Property, collectively known as Hicks Intellectual Property expanding our reach to the Bow Valley area.

    2015

    For the 100th Anniversary of Field Law in 2015, we commissioned a history book and empowered a team of three writers, a supporting editor, an indexer, a designer/printer and a History Book Committee to unearth lost stories and codify our vision, values and roots. We believe that success stems from optimizing the lessons of the past with optimism for opportunities envisioned for the future.

    2013

    Field Law launches the Field Law Community Fund Program which providing $75,000 in funding to local initiatives that benefit the communities that Field Law serves.

    In 2003 we changed our name to "Field LLP" supported by the registered trade name "Field Law".

    2001

    In April 2001, Field Atkinson Perraton gained a home base in the North by merging with Williams & Company in Yellowknife.

    1996

    On October 1, 1996, after years of organic growth and many name changes, Field & Field Perraton with offices in Edmonton and Calgary, and Atkinson Milvain of Calgary, combined under the name of "Field Atkinson Perraton".

    The firm welcomed articling student Lydia Zimmerman who became the firm’s first female lawyer.

    Field’s Calgary roots begin in 1921 when two lawyers from different backgrounds and different countries formed a partnership and Shouldice & Brockington was born.

    In 1915, in the new McLeod Building in downtown Edmonton, the firm Woods, Sherry, Collison & Field formed and became the first incarnation of what is now known as Field Law.
