Amie Heil is a partner in our Edmonton office who practices in the areas of wills, estates and trusts, corporate commercial law and real estate.

In her estate practice, Amie focuses on advising individuals, trustees and business owners on comprehensive estate planning, which includes the drafting of wills, the drafting of enduring power of attorney and personal directive documents to deal with incapacity, as well as other estate planning documents like the establishment and maintenance of trusts.

Amie also advises clients on estate administration matters, from obtaining grants of probate and grants of administration, to other aspects of the administration of the estate. She has represented clients who require guardianships or trustee orders after incapacity.

Amie has extensive experience across a broad range of corporate commercial matters, including incorporating businesses, corporate governance, share and asset purchase transactions and other transactional issues and risk mitigation. She often supports her corporate clients with the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts, employment matters, real estate and other corporate matters.

Amie’s focus on these complementary practices allows her to collaboratively work with other professionals to develop and implement comprehensive estate planning that encompasses the incorporation of companies and corporate reorganizations.

Amie also has a broad range of litigation experience, from estate litigation and corporate litigation (as well as shareholder disputes), to other general commercial litigation matters. She has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Appeal and other boards and tribunals. Her estate litigation matters have included challenging the validity of a will, challenging entitlement to life insurance proceeds and the enforceability of life insurance designations. Amie has a keen interest in trying to settle disputes by way of mediation and arbitration and has completed the Harvard Mediation Intensive Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
